Brentwood Man Arrested For Shooting Estranged Wife During Argument
BRENTWOOD (CBS SF) -- A Brentwood man is behind bars for allegedly shooting his estranged wife during an argument earlier this month, a police sergeant said Friday.
Police on Thursday learned of a previously unreported shooting on Dec. 6 at a home in the 1700 block of Ashbourne Place, according to Brentwood police Sgt. Walter O'Grodnick.
Further investigation revealed that 35-year-old David McDaniel was in a domestic dispute with his estranged wife when he allegedly pulled out a small-caliber rifle and shot her in the leg, police said.
O'Grodnick said the wife, a 35-year-old Oakley woman, was treated for the gunshot wound at a hospital and released.
After hearing about the shooting from the Rio Vista Police Department on Thursday, Brentwood police investigators arrived at McDaniel's home around 1:50 p.m.
Police said that upon seeing the investigators, the suspect retreated inside the home and refused to come back out.
Officers were able to get in touch via phone with McDaniel, who surrendered about three hours later, according to police.
Police said investigators then served a search warrant at the home, where they found evidence of the Dec. 6 shooting. McDaniel was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, brandishing a weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm.
He was taken to county jail in Martinez, where he is being held on $710,000 bail.
