Brentwood High School Football Players Suspended For Hazing
BRENTWOOD (CBS/AP) -- Five football players from a Northern California high school have been suspended for a hazing incident at a summer camp.
Officials at Liberty High School in Brentwood say four seniors and one sophomore were removed from the varsity football team for the season.
The alleged hazing incident took place at a high school football camp at Sacramento State University in late June.
Brentwood police say the incident involved at least eight student-athletes, including three victims from the junior varsity team.
Police Sgt. Tim Herbert said Wednesday the hazing involved using Icy Hot pain-relief treatment in a "manner that was not appropriate."
Herbert says investigators determined the incident involved battery and forwarded their findings to the campus police at Sacramento State, which will decide whether to send the case to prosecutors.
