Boy Dies During Football Practice
GARDEN VALLEY, Calif. (AP) _ El Dorado County authorities have identified the 11-year-old boy who collapsed and died during a youth football practice.
Authorities said Andrew Jacob Lamphere was participating in the first practice of the season at Golden Sierra High School in the unincorporated community of Garden Valley when he collapsed just before 8 p.m. Monday.
Paramedics found him in full cardiac arrest and took him to a Placerville hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Andrew's grandfather, Ron Lamphere, told KCRA-TV that the boy had asthma, though it's not clear if the condition contributed to his death.
Sheriff's spokesman Sergeant Jim Byers said the team had just started doing non-contract drills when the boy collapsed. Andrew's father is the coach and was on the field at the time.
An autopsy is planned for Tuesday.
