Harris said an officer initially pulled over the R&B singer after seeing him talking on his cellphone without a hand-free unit. Harris says the officer observed that Brown appeared to be impaired.
Details on Brown's bail or whether he remained in custody were not immediately available.
The 43-year-old is the ex-husband of the late R&B singer, Whitney Houston and is a founding member of the group New Edition. Brown is scheduled to perform along with his band mates at the Oracle Arena in Oakland on June 23, 2012.
