Blink-182 Praised As Most Animal Friendly Band Of 2016
(RADIO.COM) – Blink-182 is being hailed as the most animal friendly band of 2016 by PETA 2, the young arm of the animal rights organization. The San Diego pop-punk band has been awarded the 2016 LIBBY Award based on three criteria. The nominees' enthusiasm about being animal-friendly; the interest shown by the nominees' fans (as determined by fan-generated traffic to the website) and the number of votes received by December 9th.
But as George Varga of the San Diego Tribune points out, the threesome did not receive the award for their love of hand-drawn furry friends on album covers or their infamous bunny mascot. It was the fact that Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker are both vegans while new member Matt Skiba is a vegetarian. Barker even put his money where his mouth is by investing in Crossroads Kitchen, a popular Los Angeles vegetarian restaurant. He even tattooed a set of crisscross knives on his forearm to commemorate the partnership.
Blink-182's competition for the award was Brooklyn-based duo Matt & Kim, Sydney, Australia's Tonight Alive and Phoenix, Arizona's Farewell My Love.
AFI frontman Davey Havok was bestowed the award for Hero of The Year for Animals. Havok's competition included actors Corey Fogelmanis and Liam Hemsworth as well as singer Jhené Aiko.
The band recently played Live 105's 'Not So Silent Night' at Oracle Arena.
