Bill Cosby Emcees SFJAZZ Center's Opening Night Concert
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The new SFJAZZ Center held its opening night concert Wednesday during a star-studded event that was emceed by iconic comedian, Bill Cosby.
The sold-out concert included performances by McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Esperanza Spalding and other jazz musicians that played in the brand-new 700-seat auditorium.
The center, located at Franklin and Fell Streets in Hayes Valley, held a boisterous opening ceremony on Monday with a brass band playing "When the Saints Go Marching In" as the doors were opened to the public for the first time.
The opening of the $64 million building comes on the 30th anniversary of the start of SFJAZZ, a performing arts organization that was founded by Randall Kline and initially began as a weekend festival called "Jazz In The City."
