BART Service Restored After Big Rig Crashes Into Oakland Power Pole
OAKLAND (CBS SF) — BART service resumed between San Francisco and the East Bay Tuesday afternoon after being stopped briefly because of downed power lines near the West Oakland station.
BART officials said around 12:20 p.m. that transbay service was being shut down. About 15 minutes later, the agency announced that service had been restored with residual delays.
The downed lines were caused by a big-rig that struck a power pole at 9:38 a.m., knocking out power to 202 PG&E customers between Third and Seventh streets and Brush Street and San Francisco Bay, PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said.
The crash occurred at the corner of Seventh and Maritime streets and caused terminals on the west end of the Port of Oakland to lose power, port spokesman Robert Bernardo said.
Power was back up and fully running again at the port as of noontime, port officials said.
As of noontime, PG&E crews had restored power to all but 11 customers, Sarkissian said.
There was no estimate yet for when power would be restored to the remaining customers, she said.
