Big-Rig Crash, Fire Closes Highway 17 In Santa Cruz For Hours
SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- All lanes of state Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz Mountains reopened after a seven-hour closure caused when a big rig and an adjacent hillside caught fire Wednesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fire was reported at 10:11 p.m. near the summit of the winding road between San Jose and Santa Cruz. All lanes were initially closed in both directions at 10:36 p.m., according to the CHP.
The fire in the engine and cab of the big-rig caused a brief half-acre grass fire to burn nearby, according to the CHP.
