Formerly a warehouse and feed store back in the late 1800s, this building is now a luxury - and ghostly - hotel. First built and owned by Captain Albert Hatt who lived there along with his wife and six children, the family was thriving in the midst of a booming commerce. But tragedy struck when one of Captain Hatt's children hanged himself from an overhead beam in the warehouse in 1912. Since then, many today have witnessed apparitions and ghostly happenings such as opened and closed doors, moved items and unique scents of hay or grain left behind after an apparition appears. Make a reservation at this hotel and maybe Mr. Hatt himself will give you a fright when he greets you in the middle of the night!
The Blue Wing Inn
133 E. Spain St.
Sonoma, CA 95476
www.bluewingadobetrust.org
Said to be one of the most haunted buildings in the town of Sonoma, this inn was one of the first hotels in northern California. Ghost hunters believe The Blue Wing Inn is haunted by "The Blue Lady" who has been seen on the second-story balcony and by the back staircase. She is said to be dressed in blue velvet. The locals have also reported seeing a pirate and a puppy on the second floor of this haunted inn. Once a hostel and a saloon, today it is considered a part of the Sonoma Plaza National Historic Landmark District. The inn remains empty and closed to the public today since the methods used to construct this building have been deemed potentially hazardous. Standing outside of this location, however, may improve your chances of seeing one of these reported apparitions. Who knows, maybe "The Blue Lady" will show up for a special Halloween "How do you do?"
