Take note if you haven't already: Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday this year. Plan ahead for tickets if you're going to make it special with dinner and a show. Tommy Emmanuel's upcoming February 14th performance was sold out before Christmas, and several San Francisco theaters are dark on Valentine's weekend, so procrastinating won't do at all. Get a date sorted out so you can hold hands at a sock hop, tap your toes to some jazz, giggle at a comedy club or delight at San Francisco's longest running musical.

The seven-piece soul band has a sound that channels Memphis. The group's first album, "Half the City," is out and St. Paul and the Broken Bones are on tour promoting it. Called "white hot" by the Boston Globe and "one of 2014's most impressive DIY stories" by Hollywood Reporter, the Birmingham, Alabama group is getting a lot of attention for its "grit, elemental rhythm and tight-as-a-drumhead playing," says Ticket Biscuit.
