Bernie Sanders Makes Final Push With Crissy Field Concert
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – In the last full day of campaigning before the California primary, Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders is making a last minute push with a concert in San Francisco on Monday.
The Sanders campaign said Monday that the "Get Out The Vote" concert will take place at 5:00 p.m. at Crissy Field. Dave Matthews and Fantastic Negrito are scheduled to perform. Actors Danny Glover and Shailene Woodley and Dr. Cornel West are also making appearances.
Gates for the event will open at 3:30 p.m. The campaign strongly urges attendees to take public transportation to the event, as parking will be limited.
Sanders has made numerous appearances in the Bay Area in the last week, in a last-ditch attempt to upset Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton. Since Memorial Day, the senator from Vermont staged Bay Area rallies in Oakland, Emeryville, Palo Alto, Fairfield and Cloverdale.
The senator showed few signs of letting up at the rally in Cloverdale last Friday. "If you tell Hillary, she's going to get very nervous. She looks nervous already," Sanders told supporters. "It sounds like the campaign is not quite over."
Meanwhile, Clinton has focused her attention on presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.
"We're going to have a very contentious campaign," Clinton said Sunday at a rally in Sacramento, "because I'm going to point out at every single moment that I can why I believe the Republican nominee should never get near the White House."
On Monday, the former Secretary of State will campaign in Southern California, holding a concert of her own in Los Angeles. Scheduled acts include Christina Aguilera, John Legend, Ricky Martin and Stevie Wonder.
Former president Bill Clinton will campaign in the Bay Area on Hillary's behalf on Monday. Mr. Clinton is scheduled to appear in Hayward, Oakland, Antioch, Richmond and San Francisco.
