Berkeley City Council Meeting Postponed Following 3 Nights Of Protest
BERKELEY (CBS SF)— Berkeley city officials have canceled Tuesday night's regularly scheduled city council meeting. The move comes following three consecutive nights of mass protest in light of the grand jury decisions in the cases of Michael Brown in Ferguson and Eric Garner in New York; both unarmed black men who were killed by police.
The Mayor's office sent out a statement saying that the council chambers can hold about 125 people and they understand that more people were planning to show up tonight due to the recent events.
The meeting will be rescheduled and the Mayor's office says they will give a public notice when they know the date the meeting will be rescheduled.
About 160 people were arrested Monday night as protestors took to the streets, shutting down Interstate 80 and stopping an Amtrak train.
