Berkeley Carjacking Suspects Arrested After Police Chase
BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- Two carjacking suspects were arrested after a brief pursuit through Berkeley streets early Friday morning, according to police.
The carjacking was reported Thursday just before midnight. Three suspects approached a woman who had just gotten out of her car in the 2100 block of Prince Street and confronted her with what appeared to be a gun, police said.
The woman ran after dropping her purse, cellphone and keys. The suspects grabbed her property and fled in her car.
Police officers on patrol south of the University of California campus spotted the car a few minutes later. They tried to stop the suspects and chased them to Halcyon Court and Prince Street.
Two suspects tried to run from the car, but police grabbed and arrested them. They found a replica gun inside the car, police said.
A third suspect was tracked to the Ashby BART station a few blocks away. Police didn't find the suspect there, but found some of the victim's property.
The two suspects in custody were identified as Oakland residents Terrence Holyfield, 23, and Charles Anderson, 18. They were booked into jail on suspicion of robbery, carjacking and evading police.
Holyfield was also booked for a parole violation, police said. Both were scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning, according to jail records.
