Berkeley Businesses Absorb Loss Of Cal Games To San Francisco
BERKELEY (KCBS)--- As the Cal football team prepares to kick off its season Saturday at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, many Berkeley businesses are wondering what this season will be like without any games on campus. Due to seismic retrofit work, Berkeley's Memorial Stadium won't be ready until 2012.
This weekend's match-up with Fresno State is technically a neutral site game.
Cal will play all five of its home games at AT&T Park, and that means many bars and restaurants that typically get a boost from Cal football may have to go without.
"Right now we don't know how it's going to impact the students," said Tony Forman, who works at Kip's Restaurant on Durant Avenue. "A lot of the students may not want to go all the way to San Francisco, so we may get an influx of business from that."

Many places are hoping fans will at least start their game days in Berkeley.
"Everyone can rally here," said John Duperret, who works at BECS Bar and Bistro on Shattuck Avenue. "Have a party before taking the BART to the game."
Local schools near Memorial Stadium will also lose out on the money they made by selling game-day parking.
