Belmont Janitor Charged With Molestation Claims Accusers Are Lying
BELMONT (AP) -- A former custodian and coach at a Belmont middle school has denied allegations that he molested two female students on campus.
Andre Edwards accused the girls—students at Ralston Middle School—of lying. He spoke to the San Mateo County Times last week, saying he has no idea why the girls would accuse him of molesting them.
The 52-year-old Edwards was scheduled to be arraigned on two counts of child molestation on April 18.
Edwards is charged with fondling a 13-year-old girl in 2001 and groping a second girl on Nov. 14. He was arrested last week.
Belmont police have said the alleged 2001 incident was investigated at the time, but there was not enough evidence to charge Edwards.
Edwards claimed the accuser in that case has acknowledged to her friend that the accusation was false.
