Bay Point Woman Faces Murder Charge In Boyfriend Stabbing
MARTINEZ (BCN) - Prosecutors charged a 30-year-old Bay Point woman with murder Wednesday for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death with a kitchen knife in their home in Bay Point last week, Deputy District Attorney John Cope said.
Shanay Smith was charged with murder with an enhancement for the use of a knife for the killing of 49-year-old Aaron Compton Jr. on Jan. 14 inside their home in the 2900 block of Mary Ann Lane in unincorporated Bay Point.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office received a call at about 2 a.m. that day reporting an incident in the home. When deputies arrived, they found Compton on the floor suffering from a stab wound to his chest, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.
Compton was given first aid and taken to John Muir Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Lee said.
Smith was arrested that evening on suspicion of murder, Lee said.
Her two children were in the home when the stabbing happened and have been placed in protective custody, Cope said. Compton was not their father.
Cope said there had been previous reports of domestic violence involving the couple, but didn't release any information about a possible motive for the killing.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the sheriff's office investigations unit at (925) 313-2630.
Smith remained in custody in county jail in Martinez Wednesday on $1.05 million bail, a county jail official said. She was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Contra Costa County Superior Court.
