Bay Bridge Shutting Down When Caltrans Implodes Part Of Bay Bridge
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Dust off your binoculars. There's going to be a big event on the bay -- and probably a big backup, as well.
Caltrans work crews are going implode part of the old Bay Bridge.
Workers are loading up one of the piers with explosives.
The plan is to implode the structure at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
It will happen in a matter of seconds but since it is expected to send debris into the air, Caltrans will shut the bridge down for 15 minutes.
It is going to be an expensive operation. Reportedly the price tag on the implosion is $160 million.
