Bay Bridge Mini-Replica To Go Up In Downtown San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A working mini-version of the Bay Bridge Eastern Span will be built in Downtown San Francisco, as part of the new Transbay Transit Center project.
KCBS, KPIX 5 and Chronicle insider Phil Matier reported in Wednesday's Matier and Ross column that the $22 million span will have a look and color similar to the single tower suspension bridge that opened in 2013.
The span is part of a $58 million bus ramp connecting the new terminal and the actual Bay Bridge, which will allow buses to avoid clogged streets in Downtown.
Transbay Joint Powers Authority officials said the design was chosen to allow the basement of the transit center to be used for train service one day.
Officials said the terminal is scheduled to be completed in late 2017.
