Bay Area Uber Passenger Says Driver Responsible For Deadly Hit-And-Run
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A Bay Area Uber passenger says his driver took him on a wild ride that ended with a deadly hit-and-run.
So far, that fatal crash from last month is still unsolved.
But the Uber rider is now coming forward and says he witnessed everything.
Jason West told the San Francisco Chronicle that leading up to the fatal hit-and-run was a frightening road rage incident that lasted 15 minutes on San Francisco's busy streets.
West said his Uber driver was chasing a van at high-speed on rain-soaked streets, even running red lights, following a fender bender near Union Square.
It didn't take long for this alleged road rage to turn fatal, near the corner of Leavenworth and Ellis streets, in the Tenderloin.
West told the Chronicle that he had no idea anyone was killed.
But a 56-year-old homeless man lost his life.
According to the Chronicle, the Uber driver denied West's account of that night and maintains that he never went over the speed limit.
Still, Uber has since deactivated the driver's account and San Francisco police are further investigating.
But about a month after this alleged road rage turned fatal hit-and-run, no arrests have been made.
