Bay Area Uber Driver Pulling In Over $200K After Turning Car Into Rolling Showroom For Handmade Jewelry
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A Bay Area Uber driver is earning a six-figure income after he turned his car into a mobile showroom for the jewelry he creates.
Gavin Escolar combined his day job driving for Uber with his passion for making handmade jewelry after selling his first piece to a Nashville man looking for a gift for his wife.
"That was it, and I was like 'I should be doing this all the time'," Escolar told KPIX 5's Andria Borba.
After that first sale, Escolar started placing his work in strategic spots around the car.
"I usually wear one piece like a ring. And then it just elevated," said Escolar.
Last year Escolar's business model pushed his income well past the $200,000 mark.
"I already have a quote, base salary. Everything else from my jewelry is extra. I don't have to fire sale any of my pieces," Escolar said.
