6.9M Bay Area Residents Under Flood Advisory Following Thursday's Strong Storm
(CBS SF) -- An urban and small flood advisory is in effect for seven of nine Bay Area counties Friday after a powerful storm flooded roadways and agricultural areas.
The National Weather Service has issued the advisory for Monterey, Marin, San Benito, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Cruz, San Mateo and San Francisco counties until 9 p.m.
Lingering showers through the day will contribute to the slow drainage of areas that remain flooded from Thursday's rains. Some showers may also create new problem areas in urban areas and on roadways throughout the greater San Francisco and Monterey Bay Area.
Excess runoff from heavy rainfall is expected to cause ponding of water in urban areas, isolated regions in Silicon Valley and in low elevation areas where larger creeks and rivers flow into the Bay or ocean.
Drivers should allow extra time to get their destination and avoid crossing flooded roadways.
