Bay Area Post Offices Packed As Holiday Deadlines Approach
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Those hoping to get packages to friends and loved ones by the weekend need to spring into action, as time runs out for Christmas mail delivery.
The line stretched all the way through the lobby at the main post office in San Jose on Monday. The United States Postal Service said this is normally the busiest week of the year.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
"The 20th is the deadline for first class mail. Then Wednesday is the deadline for priority mail. Thursday, which will be the 22nd, would be the deadline for express mail," said Postal Service spokesman Gus Ruiz.
Ruiz said that, with more and more shoppers making their purchases online, there is a heavier reliance on the postal service to deliver those purchases.
"So far, no one has figured out how to e-mail a sweater," said Ruiz.
