Bay Area Nurses Blame Texas Hospital For Mishandling Ebola Cases
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Bay Area nurses are blaming the Texas hospital after the second health care worker tested positive for Ebola Tuesday.
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas says the first nurse got sick because of a breach in protocol.
The infuriated nurses union, Oakland-based National Nurses United, paints a chaotic picture of how the hospital handled Thomas Duncan, the first person to die of Ebola on U.S. soil.
"There were no protective gear," said union president Deborah Burger. "There were no gowns that were adequate to properly treat Mr. Duncan. There were no adequate masks and face shields to protect the nurses and other healthcare workers. He was not put into an isolation room for several hours."
The nurses are not only worried about the disease, but also of losing their jobs in this blame game.
The Centers for Disease Control says the second Ebola patient is in isolation is being interviewed about any contact that could lead to other potential exposures.
