Bay Area Mother's Day Gift Ideas

It's that time of the year - Mother's Day (May 8th) is just around the corner! Have you found a gift for the special lady in your life yet? If you're looking for something special and different, a departure from the usual flowers, here are some of Eye on the Bay host Thuy Vu's top gift suggestions. I love that they're all created by Bay Area women entrepreneurs who are following their passion.

The Chocolate Addict

The Chocolate Addict was started by Katreece Montgomery, an East Bay videographer and editor who turns chocolate into art. She has created an impressive array of shapes and designs, from bouquets of giant chocolate tulips to intricate butterflies. Now, you can do the same thing at home. Her instructional DVD's and chocolate decoration kits give you all the tricks and tools to embellish your next party or share a fun family experience making beautiful desserts.

Starfield Bay

This fun jewelry company was started by Katherine Eslao and her two best friends. Eslao is a San Francisco dentist by day and a jewelry designer by night. Her fingerprint charms are a big hit among my mom friends. Starfield Bay's kits make it easy. All you have to do is make a clay impression of your child's fingerprint, choose a design and mail everything in. You get back a one-of-a-kind necklace that you'll treasure forever. They also do pet nose prints, name tags, art work and cufflinks. I recently gave my husband cufflinks containing our 4-year-old daughter's fingerprints for his birthday and he loved them!

Willet's Mini Creations

Willet Cendana of San Jose left high tech after she had a baby and decided it was time for a lifestyle change. She has always loved to bake and decided to try her hand at making cake truffles that she calls "craveez." They're bite-sized pieces of cake and frosting rolled into a ball, then dipped in chocolate. It's the perfect marriage of flavors! Freshly baked and decorated by hand, they come in all sorts of flavors and designs, from flowers to animals. Trust me-the craveez are crazy delicious.
