Bay Area Gas Prices Up By 70 Cents At Some Stations
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Are you experiencing sticker shock at the pump? You may have noticed the last few times you've gone to fill up at Bay Area gas stations that prices have gone up by at least 70 cents per gallon.
The average price of gas in the Bay Area hovers just over $4 and has been has been as high as $4.38 for a gallon of premium fuel at one Bay Area gas station.
For a look at what's causing this, we spoke with Phil Flynn of the Price Futures Group. He gave three reasons to blame including "increased fuel political risk" stemming from the situation in Ukraine. In addition the time of season and supply and demand were other factors.

"This is coming at a time when we're doing the switch over from the winter-time blend to the summer-time blend. Believe it or not, cold winter weather has tightened the supplies of ethanol, which has driven up the cost of everything," Flynn said.
What could this be costing you, you ask? Well, if you have a 15-gallon fuel tank for example, that means you could be paying $9 more a tank-full on average or $36 a month. Of course many commuters fill up more than once a week.
