Bay Area Gas Prices Continue To Rise
EMERYVILLE (KCBS) – The price at the pump around the Bay Area is increasing almost everyday as the price of a gallon of regular unleaded has jumped statewide by 60 cents over the past month.
According to AAA, the average cost of a gallon of gas in the state hit $4.20 this week. The numbers are even higher in San Francisco as the average price is $4.26 per gallon.
KCBS' Ted Goldberg Reports:
Cynthia Harris with AAA said the state has seen this before.
"California motorists are very used to the volatility in gas prices," she said. "In 2008, we experienced the highest-ever recorded prices. We hit over $5 per gallon of unleaded regular gasoline. Then prices stabilized and went down. So this is something that we have learned to live with."
Analysts said that the tensions with Iran are sending oil prices up and a number of refineries on the West Coast have shut down.
According to a consumer sentiment index released on Friday, the return of high gas prices has Americans feeling more pessimistic about their financial situation.
