Bay Area Food Bank Unwraps Mega Donation
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - The Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties unwrapped its largest corporate contribution ever Monday morning.
Decorated with a giant ribbon and bow, the 75,000 square foot building estimated at $9 million is a gift from the Cypress Semiconductor Corp., food bank representatives said.
Serving as a volunteer food-sorting center, the building will help make 18 million more meals available to the hungry, representatives said.
The building is located on Cypress Semiconductor's corporate campus at 4001 N. First St. in San Jose. For 20 consecutive years, Cypress Semiconductor has been the largest per-capita corporate donor to the food bank, according to representatives.
KCBS' Betsy Gebhart Reports:
One in 10 people in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties receive food from the Second Harvest Food Bank, representatives said.
