BART-To-San Jose Sees An Infusion Of Cash From State
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – California may be broke, but that isn't stopping the state from funneling more than $200 million into Bay Area transportation projects. This is especially good news for the Bay Area Rapid Transit project to San Jose.
The BART-to-San Jose extension is getting $50 million from the state to expand from Fremont to Berryessa. Bernice Alaniz with the Valley Transportation Authority said that could mean that ground could be broken as early as next year.

"We are slated to begin construction in early 2012 and this provides more funding for us to begin construction, and then be able to deliver the project," said Alaniz.
Meanwhile, the California Transportation Commission also approved over $70 million to add carpool lanes on 880 between Milpitas and San Jose, and nearly $85 million to add merging lanes on Highway 101 from Palo Alto to Mountain View.
In addition, the Department of Transportation has announced a grant of $640,000 to help BART buy land in eastern Contra Costa County for park-and-ride and bus services at the planned Antioch BART expansion.
