BART Strike Has Led More Bay Area Workers To Bike To Work
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Buses, ferry boats and cars have been packed this week, since Bay Area Rapid Transit employees went on strike Monday, but many workers are also pedaling to work on bicycles.
Danny Riborozo of South San Francisco was one of the few cyclists with a neck tie flapping in the wind.

"I took the Caltrain because it's a lot more convenient now since there's no BART," he said. "And I would rather not drive in because it's really crazy."
Many are like Riborozo, taking their bikes on Caltrain, AC Transit and ferry boats. Leah Shahum with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition said Market Street, Oak Street and Valencia Street in San Francisco have all seen more riders since Monday.
"We've really seen people who try biking realize it's a lot easier than they think, a lot faster than they think and a lot more fun," Shahum said. "So people end up sticking with bicycling long-term."
Caltrans runs a weekday Bay Bridge Bike Shuttle from the MacArthur BART station in Oakland to the Transbay Terminal in San Francisco. For $1.00, cyclists can load their bikes onto a trailer and hop on the van to take them across the span.
The shuttle can carry a total of 14 bikes and passengers.
