Person Of Interest Sought In Warm Springs BART Station Stabbing

FREMONT (CBS SF) – BART police on Thursday afternoon released images of a person of interest authorities want to speak with in connection with a early morning stabbing at the Warm Springs Station.

Fremont police received a call at around 2:15 a.m. reporting a man lying in a street near the Warm Springs / South Fremont BART Station. A 39-year-old man, who appears to be a transient, was found with minor wounds to his chest and buttocks.

The victim reported that he was awoken while sleeping near the station and thought he was being robbed, according to police. He was taken to Valley Medical Care Hospital in San Jose for treatment.

The case was turned over to BART police when it was determined the incident happened on BART property.

Service at the station was unaffected by the incident and investigation, BART police Lt. Tyrone Forte said.

BART officials did say that access to some of the entrances and parking lots would be limited because of the investigation.

BART Police issued a press release that included two photos of the person of interest sought in connection with the stabbing. The person of interest is described as a white or Hispanic male wearing a dark colored knit hat, a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Police investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying this man so they can interview him.

Anyone with information on the person of interest or the incident should call BART police investigators at 510-464-7040.
