BART Contract Talks Resume With Less Than 3 Weeks To Reach Deal
OAKLAND (KCBS)— Labor contract talks resumed on Monday for Bay Area Rapid Transit after negotiators took a break over the weekend. So far neither side sounds terribly optimistic.
With less than three weeks to go until the August 4th deadline both sides agreed to before the BART strike ended, President of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1555, Antonette Bryant said things aren't looking so good.
"I believe that it's unfortunate that the district continues to negotiate with us fairly. It's very disappointing," she said.
Over the weekend, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Transportation Commission said both sides remain far apart.
"We're certainly hopeful that a contract can be reached and any further work stoppages avoided said BART Spokesman Rick Rice.

The main sticking points remain pay and employee contributions to health care.
The union has said it can not rule out another strike August 4th if a deal hasn't been reached.
