Barry Bonds Goes On Trial Monday For 2003 Testimony
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- More than seven years after he testified to a federal grand jury that he never knowingly took performance-enhancing drugs, home run leader Barry Bonds will go on trial Monday in the same federal courthouse in San Francisco.
The charges? That he lied back in 2003.
If convicted, Bonds would likely face 15 to 21 months in prison.
The ex-Giant says that even if he took steroids, he did so unknowingly -- simply taking what his trainer told him to.
Prosecutors contend Bonds lied to protect the legacy of a career in which he hit home runs at an unprecedented pace, especially for someone his age. Bonds was 43 when he his 762nd, and last, home run.
