Bail Reduced For Livermore Teacher Accused Of Sex With Student

PLEASANTON (KCBS) – The Livermore teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy made her second court appearance on Tuesday.

41-year-old Marie Johnson had her bail reduced to $950,000 from $1.85 million to correct a court error.  Johnson's attorney said the updated bail is more in line with the bail schedule and charges the teacher faces.

The arraignment for the Granada High School teacher and married mother of two was postponed until February 23rd.

Some former students of Johnson were also in the courtroom Tuesday. Ivan Calvillo said that he couldn't believe it when he first heard the allegations against his freshmen year math teacher.

"She's a teacher that we looked up to," he said.

Calvillo, along with former classmate Flora Chavez, decided to go to Marie Johnson's scheduled arraignment on Tuesday to show their support for someone they say influenced their lives in such a positive way.

"She's someone who helped students out," said Calvillo. "So until they prove her guilty then I'm going to support her innocence."

KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:

"She actually made us work harder and told us things to be a better person and be something in life," said Chavez.

Johnson was arrested last Wednesday after police got a tip that she'd had a six month sexual affair with a 14-year old student starting in 2010. The arraignment for the married mother of two was postponed until February 23rd.
