Three-Week-Old Baby Found Dead In Slough Near Sacramento

WOODLAND (CBS SF) — Search and rescue teams have found the body of an infant in the area of Yolo County.

The body was found just before 10 a.m. Wednesday in a thicket of brush right off of Ridge Cut Slough, according to a Yolo County Sheriff's Office spokesperson. The body has not yet been positively identified by the Yolo County Coroner's Office.

Three-week-old baby Justice Reese and his mother went missing on Feb. 21. The mother, 22-year-old Samantha Green, was found with cuts to her face and body Tuesday evening, according to CBS Sacramento.

The baby was discovered in a slough east of County Road 102 not far from where his mother was found.

According to the Sheriff's Office, tools will be needed to cut a path in the brush just to get to Justice.

It's too early in the investigation to know if there was any foul play involved.

Meanwhile, the family had been at the site of the search all morning talking about baby Justice.

His grandfather spoke to CBS Sacramento and said that the baby never had a chance. He would have turned three weeks old on Wednesday.

The Sheriff's Office also could not comment if the baby was clothed or wrapped in blankets.

Marin County Sheriff's Lt. Doug Pittman said search-and-rescue crews in his area assisted with the search. Authorities in Contra Costa, Alameda, Sonoma and Napa counties were also asked to assist and send search dogs.
