Baby Bald Eagle Hatches At East Bay Park
CASTRO VALLEY (CBS SF) - A bald eagle that recently hatched at Anthony Chabot Regional Park in Castro Valley is expected to by flying by July, according to the East Bay Regional Park District.
A bald eagle couple that built a nest in February in a restricted area of the park, which is located at 17600 Lake Chabot Road, hatched the chick around April 22, wildlife program manager Doug Bell said Tuesday.
Based on when park officials saw the nest being built and the incubation period, the eaglet could by flying by July 4, he said.
Bald eagles are protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. They are listed as state endangered in California.
