Baby Alligator Found During Fairfield Drug Raid
FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) - Among the marijuana, cash and guns found inside a Fairfield home during a recent raid was a three-foot-long baby alligator, according to police.
The discovery was made by Vacaville police searching the Begonia Blvd. home of William and Lori Riley. The couple was stopped in Modesto on January 31st. Police discovered 50 pounds of marijuana – with an estimated street value of $250,000 – and a handgun in the car.
The investigation led Vacaville police to the Riley's home, where they also found pot, seven firearms and more than $29,000 in cash. Both were booked into the Solano County Jail on charges of transportation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, and weapons charges.
It was not immediately clear if the gator was meant to stand guard over the stash, or was simply a family pet. The animal was turned over to Solano County Human Animal Services.
The discovery came after a five-foot long dwarf caiman was found apparently protecting 34 pounds of marijuana inside a Castro Valley home last month.
