Auto Test: Toyota Avalon LTD
(KCBS) - For those who yearn for the big comfortable sedans of yesteryear, Toyota's flagship, the Avalon, combines modern technology with old-time luxury. The Avalon is exceedingly roomy, front and back, power everything, with an efficient 3.5 liter V6 yielding 268 horsepower, coupled to a smooth 6 speed automatic.
In fact, smoothness is the essence of the Avalon--easy steering, easy brakes, easy riding. It's a bit firmer than the first Avalons so there's minimal floating on the highway. The V6 is basically gentle but a quick push on the the throttle can give brisk acceleration and a bit of torque steer.
