Authorities Discover Illegal Weapons in Bay Point Home
BAY POINT (KCBS) — Sheriff's deputies in Contra Costa County who were investigating an alleged assault last week said they found dozens of firearms inside a Bay Point home.
Mike Kestner was taken into custody and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and illegal possession of an assault weapon. He is being held on $50,000 bail.
According to authorities, a man who said he was the victim of an assault flagged down deputies patrolling the unincorporated community of Bay Point.
KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:
Contra Costa Assistant Sheriff Donny Gordon said deputies tracked the alleged perpetrator to the house.
"Once inside they located a loaded Uzi and then the rest kind of unfurled from that. They located other weapons," Gordon said.
Deputies, police and members of the California Department of Justice said they found 49 firearms in all. Items confiscated included handguns, rifles, shotguns, and submachine guns.
Gordon said not all the weapons were illegal to possess, but he said Kestner told investigators that he had obtained them illegally.
"There was some talk about why he had the weapons. He didn't give any indication as to why. He had so many," Gordon added.
