SF Police Locate Victim Of Mission District Assault Reported In Local Blog
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- San Francisco police have identified the victim of an alleged Mission District sexual assault that was reported in local blogs this week, and say the attack is similar to an attempted rape reported nearby.
The assault at 19th and Capp streets, which was first reported in local news blogs, allegedly occurred early Monday morning and resulted in a visit to San Francisco General Hospital for the victim, according to those reports.
However, police said the attack was never reported to them. The victim was located only after investigators interviewed the author of an article in the "Mission Local" blog.
Published reports on the June 18 attack indicate the woman was attacked from behind and violently sexually assaulted by two men, and that they robbed her after the attack.
Police now say the attack is similar to a reported June 15
incident that occurred just five blocks away, on Erie Alley near 13th Street.
The victim in that assault also said she was approached from behind by two men who attempted to sexually assault her.
In both incidents, the victims described her attackers as two men, one short, possibly around 5 feet 4 inches and one taller, around 5 feet 10 inches. The descriptions suggest the men were both Hispanic, or possibly one Hispanic and one black.
Investigators are now working to determine if there is any connection between the attacks, and the Mission Station has increased patrols in the area.
