A's Lead Major League Baseball With 6 All-Star Selections, Giants Earn 2

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - The team with baseball's best record also boasts the most All-Star selections for next week's midsummer classic. The Oakland A's will send six of their starters to the game at Target Field in Minnesota on July 15.

Third baseman Josh Donaldson will be the lone starting position player for the A's. Derek Norris, Yoenis Cespedes, and Brandon Moss will be available off of the bench. Closer Sean Doolittle, starter Scott Kazmir will be available to pitch.

The six selections are the most for the low-profile A's since 1975, the team was reigning 3-time World Series champion. In reality, the team can claim a seventh representative. Newly-acquired starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija was named to represent the National League, but was made ineligible when he was traded to the A's last week.

The Giants will send repeat all-stars Hunter Pence and Madison Bumgarner to the game.
