As Iraq War Ends, Vallejo Soldiers Head To Kuwait
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – On the same day that an official end to the war in Iraq was signaled by US officials, more than a dozen soldiers from an army reserve unit in Vallejo are headed back to the Middle East.
The 19 members of the 481st Transportation Company, Mare Island have been dispatched to Kuwait to bring back equipment that was used to fight the nine-year war in Iraq.
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
"I give him credit," said Amy, whose close friend is being deployed. "He's giving up his lifestyle here to go all the way over there and defend our country. So I'm sad, but happy for him at the same time."
The unit will depart early next week for a trip to Fort Dix New Jersey, and then continue on to Kuwait.
