Arrests Made In Multi-Agency Police Raid In Newark
NEWARK (KCBS) – Multiple law enforcement agencies conducted a large-scale raid on at least four homes in Newark Thursday morning.
Fremont police said several people were arrested in connection with a robbery or string of robberies in the city. They have not disclosed exactly how many people were taken into custody. SWAT teams were also at the scene in the area of Cherry Street and Central Avenue in Newark.
Two brothers, who did not want to be identified, said authorities stormed their house.
"They lit our backyard on fire. There's a couch in our backyard and it's a smoldering mess," he said. "They knocked down my fence and used flash bangs. They grabbed knives and cut through my couch."
Their 18-year-old brother was arrested and it's believed that police were looking for guns.
KCBS' Holly Quan Reports:
A Milpitas Police Department watch commander said Milpitas PD was the lead agency in the operation. Law enforcement officials would not make any further comments as the investigation was ongoing.
