Arrest Made In Robbery Of 70-Year-Old Woman Outside Fremont Walmart
FREMONT (CBS SF) -- A suspect has been arrested in connection with a robbery that seriously injured a woman outside a Walmart last week, Fremont police said Friday.
Alberto Solano, an 18-year-old Newark resident, was arrested Friday afternoon on suspicion of felony robbery, battery with serious bodily injury and elder abuse, Officer Geneva Bosques said.
Solano was identified by an off-duty police officer who saw a video of the attack on local news, Bosques said. The officer had previous contact with the suspect.
A second female suspect remains at large and police are still asking for the public's help in identifying her, Bosques said.
Solano and his accomplice allegedly stalked a 70-year-old woman, who was shopping in the Walmart store at 44009 Osgood Road with her family around 9:20 p.m. Friday, according to police.
When the woman left the store, she was approached from behind by a suspect who grabbed her gold necklace, according to police.
After a brief struggle, the suspect slammed the woman to the ground and he ran a short distance to an awaiting getaway car, police said.
The woman was transported to a hospital to be treated for a broken hip, which required surgery.
Bosques said the victim, who was visiting her family from out of town, has been released from the hospital but remains in a lot of pain.
The female suspect, around 17 to 25 years old, was described as a Hispanic female, about 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-6 with a small build. She has brown hair pulled into a bun or short ponytail, and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and shorts.
They fled in a silver or gray Hyundai four-door car with tinted rear windows, police said.
Anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts is asked to call Fremont police at (510) 790-6900.
