18-Year-Old Accused Of Pistol-Whipping, Robbing Orinda Nanny Charged With Felonies
ORINDA (CBS SF) – An Oakland man is facing felony charges for allegedly holding a nanny at gunpoint and pistol-whipping her while he robbed an Orinda home last week, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office.
Armani Miller, 18, is facing charges of residential robbery, carjacking, false imprisonment, kidnapping, assault and burglary for the incident last Tuesday afternoon. He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning, prosecutors said.
Miller was identified as a suspect when he was found in Oakland with a black Porsche Cayenne stolen from the home on El Castillo Court near El Nido Ranch Road, according to Orinda police.
Police said Miller approached a 53-year-old nanny outside the home while she was raking leaves at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday and started asking her questions. She only speaks Cantonese so couldn't answer, so he left, returning about 10 minutes later.
The nanny went back into the home when the homeowner's 5-year-old daughter came home from school. Miller then allegedly kicked in the door of the house and pulled a gun on the nanny in the home's kitchen.
The nanny tried to check on the little girl, but Miller allegedly hit her in the head with the gun, causing her to bleed. He then forced her to go room-to-room, stealing cash, two iPads and the keys to the Porsche, police said.
Miller allegedly drove away in the Porsche. Police also received reports of a suspicious white Lexus nearby at the time and believe Miller may have arrived with a second suspect in the Lexus.
Oakland police spotted the stolen Porsche on 35th Street in Oakland on Wednesday night. They also spotted the Lexus as well.
When Oakland police officers tried to pull over the Porsche, Miller, who was driving, fled but crashed after a short pursuit. He was arrested and booked into jail in Martinez.
Orinda police Chief Mark Nagel said Monday that the driver of the Lexus remains at large.
