Are You Orange Enough? True Giants Orange Is No Coral, Salmon, Or Marigold
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- True Giants fans know if their orange is it, but did you know quite how super-specific Giants orange can be?
To be precise, using the web standard of "hexadecimal" colors, Giants Orange is FE5A1D █. That's nearly fully saturated, fully bright orange. Just like our team.
GEEK OUT WITH ME FOR A SEC: The first two digits in a hexadecimal (six-digit) code are how much red is in a color, then how much green, and finally how much blue. The normal numbers then the letters A, B, C, D, E, and F represent increasing values of 0 to 255, in just two characters of code.
Compared to the Baltimore Orioles, those East Coasters are dimmer, and dustier than the vibrant Giants, with F4632A █. We sort of knew that already.
So, anyone trying to rep their Giants wearing coral, salmon, burnt orange, pumpkin, what-have-you, like that guy in the middle of that picture above, technically isn't true to their team's colors.
And San Francisco knows its orange.
The Golden Gate Bridge is famously painted "International Orange" - #C0362C █. It's darker, and more reddish than the Giants' hue, and used around the world for its high visibility. You can read the history of the Golden Gate's paint here. It's not to be confused with NASA's favorite, #FF4F00 █ known as "Aerospace Orange."
But, in a sampling of Giants logos, the Giants aren't as orangey as you'd think either. The team's Facebook profile image uses an orange of FE5B20 █, while the trim on the website is FD5A1E █, as sampled by downloading a JPEG file and using the Adobe PhotoShop eye-dropper tool to sample the color. Those values are a far cry from the FE5A1D █, marked as their official orange on this website, or the FB5B1F █ listed on Pro Baseball Updates' website.
Now, "orange" you glad we did all that research for you?
These colors are a great way to test whether you're color blind. And when in doubt? Just wear it and say "Go Giants" to anyone in orange. An Orioles fan wouldn't likely be at any World Series Parade of Champions anyway.
