Arby's Snatches Pharrell's Hat For $40,100 On eBay
(CBS SF/AP) - Arby's has won the bid for Pharrell Williams' famous Grammys hat.
The fast food restaurant said Sunday it paid $44,100 for the Vivienne Westwood hat, made famous when Williams wore it at the 56th Grammy Awards in January.
The Arby's logo uses a design similar to the brown fedora, which became a trending topic on Twitter after he sported it at the Grammys.
The producer-rapper-singer put the hat up for sale on eBay two weeks ago. The earnings will support his charity for at-risk teens, From One Hand to Another.
The 40-year-old entertainer wore a similar hat when he performed at the 86th Academy Awards on Sunday. "Happy," his No. 1 hit from the film "Despicable Me 2," was nominated for best original song.
Williams tweeted thanks to the then-unknown buyer of the Grammys hat on Sunday, to which Arby's replied, "You're welcome. We're HAPPY to support a great cause & get our hat back."
He responded with a pun on the chain's signature sandwich: "What a pleasant surprise. Thank you @Arbys, our roast beef is now officially well done."
