AR-15 Stolen From San Francisco Police Car Found In Oakland
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - An assault rifle stolen from an unmarked San Francisco police car has been recovered in Oakland, according to police.
In a press release Tuesday, the San Francisco Police Deparment said the AR-15 rifle was recovered at a residence on the 1300 block of 88 Avenue in Oakland.
Oakland police investigators identified the location and began surveillance, according to the statement.
Officer then served a search warrant at the location recovered the weapon.
An unknown number of people were detained but no suspects were in custody Tuesday, according to police.
The AR-15 rifle was stolen when the car was parked and locked while officers worked in the South of Market neighborhood Saturday night. Unknown suspects broke in to the car and stole the rifle, Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.
The AR-15 is a type of rifle issued to specially trained officers so that they are available for rapid deployment during incidents such as a barricaded suspect, Andraychak said.
