Apple Wastes No Time, Construction Of Cupertino 'Spaceship' Campus Underway
CUPERTINO (KCBS) — After receiving approval from the Cupertino City Council, construction crews aren't wasting any time demolishing dozens of buildings to make way for Apple's so-called "Spaceship" campus.
Former Hewlett-Packard buildings near Interstate 280 and Wolfe Road are being turned into a demolition zone. Many residents who live near the new Apple campus have mixed feelings about the new project.
Hundreds of workers are on the job contained by large, green sound walls that are as big as entire blocks.

Wendy, an nearby resident who did not give her last name, told KCBS that her son came into her room when he was startled awake this week.
"He comes in our room and he goes, 'Hey, what's all that thunder going on outside?' I looked outside and there was no rain, so we figured it was from all the construction," she said.
Other neighbors are worried about the traffic impact, once the 2.8-million-square-foot building is complete.
"A couple of times people noted that the new 49ers Stadium could actually fit in the center of this building and not touch any of the sides," said Cupertino Mayor Orrin Mahoney.
He said Apple wasted no time getting started on the project once the City Council gave them the green light to go ahead and start construction.
"The next morning they were physically at City Hall pulling permits and machinery was starting to go and they had already done a lot of work." Mahoney said.
The campus is expected to be completed sometime in mid-2016.
