Apple CEO Reportedly Hosting Hillary Clinton Fundraiser
CUPERTINO (CBS SF) – Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook is reportedly holding a fundraiser for the Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in late August.
BuzzFeed News reported Friday that the fundraiser will take place on August 24th. The location has not been announced. Cook will host the fundraiser as a private citizen and not as a representative of the company.
The minimum donation to attend is $2,700, but donors can also contribute $10,000 or $50,000. Contributions will go to the Hillary Victory Fund, which contributes to Clinton's campaign, the Democratic National Committee and 38 state Democratic parties.
Cook's fundraiser for the Democratic nominee follows a fundraiser for House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) in Menlo Park last month.
The Apple CEO is apparently trying to build relationships with both major political parties, despite overwhelming support for Democrats among Silicon Valley voters and Silicon Valley tech leaders who oppose Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
So far, Cook has not indicated whether he would host a fundraiser for Trump. The Republican nominee has said in the past to boycott the Cupertino-based tech giant over its stance on encryption.
Apple refused to provide financial and tech support to the Republican National Convention earlier this month over Trump's rhetoric on minorities, women and immigrants.
