Haz-Mat Evacuation In SF North Beach Triggered By Suicide Discovery
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- An apparent suicide in a North Beach home has led to the evacuation of residents from the area after emergency responders encountered hazardous chemicals at the scene, San Francisco police said Saturday night.
Police were called to the home on the 1500 block of Powell Street.
Officers responding to the scene discovered a suicide in the unit and encountered a strong smell of chemicals on the scene, Esparza said.
The fire department was called in to deal with the hazardous materials and around 15 people were evacuated from the building.
The American Red Cross assisted those evacuated from the building, and firefighters remained on scene trying to ventilate the building and neutralize the situation late Saturday night.
